Best Vinyl Monogram Machines: Reviews

1. Silhouette Cameo 3 Starter Bundle

If you are looking for a great vinyl cutting machine that can create monograms, handle heat transfer, and comes with everything you need to get started, you might want to check out this Silhouette Cameo 3 Starter Bundle.

Review

The Silhouette Cameo 3 Starter Bundle comes with everything you need to get started. Here, you get 26 Oracle vinyl sheets, transfer paper, 24 sketch pens, guidance and lessons too.

Simply put, even if you have never used a vinyl cutting or monogram machine before, the lessons included here are more than enough to get you started.

Of course, when you purchase the Silhouette Cameo 3 Starter Bundle, you also get the latest addition of Silhouette design software, so you can create your own designs, monograms, images, lettering, patterns, and much more.

As long as you design something that can fit on a 12 x 12 inch cutting mat, you are good to go. What’s pretty neat is that you can also replace the cutting blade with a sketch pen to draw on vinyl instead of just cutting it.

Now, what you need to keep in mind is that the Silhouette Cameo 3 Starter Bundle is specially designed for vinyl heat transferring. Of course you can create monograms, but they are intended to then be heat transferred onto other surfaces, mainly clothing and apparel.

Something else that really stands out about this product is that it comes with the auto-blade, which is a self-adjusting blade that adjusts itself based on your chosen project.

PROSCONS
  • Inexpensive starter pack
  • Durability is a bit limited
  • Comes with everything you need
  • Durable machine
  • Great for monograms, heat transfer, sketching, cutting, and more

2. Cricut Explore Air 2 Machine Bundle

This is another affordable vinyl cutting and printing machine that is ideal for beginners. It’s also a pack that comes with absolutely everything you need to get started, one which comes in at a reasonable price, and works perfectly for making monograms too.

Review

The Cricut Explore Air 2, for one, comes with a very high-quality vinyl cutting machine. In fact, the Cricut Explore Air 2 is one of the most popular options out there right now for all kinds of vinyl cutting needs.

Based on the cost, which is not too high, it is one of the more useful, durable, versatile, and accurate vinyl monogram and cutting machines our there right now.

We really like how the Cricut Explore Air 2 comes with literally everything you need to get started.

This includes the machine itself, built-in Bluetooth connectivity, the Cricut design software, a carbide blade, an accessories adaptor, tons of free images, pen and cardstock samples, a beginner’s guide, a 12 x 12 inch cutting mat, some sketch pens, a Cricut tool kit, 8 9×12 inch vinyl sheets, and an equal number of heat transfer sheets.

You can use the design space to create your own monograms, which you can then draw or cut out onto the vinyl sheets. You can then use the heat transfer paper to transfer said vinyl monogram onto a piece of clothing of choice.

The only downside is that if you like making a lot of your own projects, you will need to purchase more vinyl. All of that said, the Cricut Explore Air 2 is an affordable option that can do everything you would expect from an item like this.

PROSCONS
  • Quite affordable
  • Not much vinyl included
  • Everything you need to get started
  • Not great for very large projects
  • Perfect for beginners
  • Monograms and much more
  • High-grade design software

3. Silhouette Portrait 2

Here we have the most affordable option on the list today, a miniature vinyl cutting and monogram machine. It’s a small and portable option designed for small jobs, and it gets the job done just fine.

Review

The Silhouette Portrait 2 is smaller than either of the others we have looked at so far. This particular one can cut and draw vinyl patterns onto a sheet up to 8 inches, which yes, is pretty small, although it should be large enough to make some pretty decent monograms.

Now, it may not be able to handle huge projects, but on the other hand, it’s also a very compact and portable machine to go with.

On that same note, the Silhouette Portrait 2 can cut over 100 different materials including vinyl, cardstock, paper, it can make monograms, T-shirts, and more. If you just want something small and efficient to make monograms, then this is a fantastic way to go.

Here, you also get access to the Silhouette design studio software, so you can easily create your own monograms and designs, plus you get a $25 voucher to download pre-made designs.

The Silhouette Portrait 2 is compatible with the auto-blade, but it is not included. Also, keep in mind that unlike the other products we looked at, this one does not come with any vinyl, transfer papers, pens, or anything else of the sort.

You just get the machine itself.

PROSCONS
  • Compact and portable
  • Just the machine
  • Extremely affordable
  • Can only handle small projects
  • Great for a variety of small projects
  • Great for beginners

Conclusion

When it comes down to it, all 3 vinyl monogram and cutting machines we looked at are high quality. If you want something small and portable for basic monograms, the Silhouette Portrait 2 is probably the best way to go.

However, if you need a great beginner’s bundle with everything included, either of the first 2 products we reviewed would be the best way to go.
