Silhouette Cameo Projects

Do you work with a Silhouette Cameo? Are you trying to come up with new projects to work on? If you answered, “yes” to both of these questions, we have some fun projects for you to try.

Even if you are a beginner, you will find these projects fun and easy, and you will become a Silhouette Cameo expert in no time. These projects will help you learn how to use this cutting machine, and soon you will be working on expert-level projects.

Advice for Beginners

One of the best pieces of advice any crafter can receive, no matter what type of crafting they do, is to not take on too many projects at once. To get started, choose one project that you would really like to try, and work on that until you get it just the way you want it to look, whether it is for scrapbooking, customizing clothing, making signs, etc.

Silhouette Cameo Projects for Beginners

As mentioned previously, focus on one project at a time until you get used to using the Silhouette Cameo. This is your chance to learn about all the software tools, and the many techniques you can use for your first and future projects.

Once you have decided on your first project (whether it is one from this article or something else you have chosen to try), it’s time to look for online tutorials to see how others do it. This is a great way to learn all about the machine and what it can do.

Now, let’s take a look at some of our favorite beginner projects for the Silhouette Cameo.

Customized Pillows

Everyone loves throw pillows, and they are even cooler when you can customize them with your own designs. Forget about buying custom pillows or having them made, because it is going to cost a fortune.

You can get pillow foam at any craft store, and all you have to do is cover it with fabric and customize it with your Silhouette Cameo to give it a finished look.

You will need the pillow form, some fabric, an idea for customization, and the Silhouette Cameo cutting tool. In less than an hour you can make your own customized pillow or cushion.

Stencils

If you think you are going to be doing a lot of projects with lettering, but you don’t want to have to create the letters over and over again, another option is to make your own stencils with the Silhouette Cameo.

You can use any fonts the software offers, and then you can reuse the stencils you make over and over again. You will never have messy lettering again once you start making your own stencils.

Glasses, Mugs, and Cups

These days, customized glassware seems to be all the rage. Instead of spending a lot of money on these items in regular retail stores, it is a lot more fun to make your own, and it will be at a fraction of the price you would pay in stores.

Make fun mugs, cups, and glasses with cute pictures, and personalize them with names. These make great gift ideas, and everyone loves to have something that is personalized and created by a loved one.

This is also a great idea for graduation and teacher’s gifts. If you personalize water bottles, you may even be able to motivate people into drinking from these bottles rather than buying bottled water every day and having that plastic end up in landfills.

Canvas Creations

Another item that is becoming more and more popular is canvas art, and this is a project that has pretty much no limitations.

You can take canvas art as far as your imagination will let you, and you can create the design easily with your Silhouette Cameo. To go out and buy art canvases can be quite costly, but making your own can cost as little as $10 (or even less). Most dollar stores sell framed canvasses, so you can get really creative on a budget.

Use the cutting machine to create your design, place it on the canvas, and then use craft paints (also available at dollar stores) to create the actual painting. You don’t even need to be an artist to create beautiful works of art.

Wall Art

Another option is to create wall art with the machine. In fact, as long as you are able to stick things onto your walls (if you rent, please ask permission from your landlord before proceeding), you can create art that you can put up. It won’t be long before others are asking for your original artwork for their homes.

Labels

Do you remember when having a label making machine was all the rage, and everyone just had to have one? Well, your Silhouette Cameo takes label making to the next level.

Not only will you be more organized once you have everything labeled, but you can use the machine to turn your storage bins, jars, and other items into awesome home décor items.

Personalized Clothing

Instead of paying a lot of money for personalized clothing items, why not make them yourself with your Silhouette Cameo? Your options are virtually limitless, and personalized items make awesome gifts.

Use the Silhouette Cameo to create the stencils, place them on the clothing items you want to personalize, and then use fabric paint to color in the designs.
